CC1312R7:The frequency supported by Wi-SUN

Part Number: CC1312R7

Tool/software:

Hi,

We have a product related to wireless communication, operating at a sub-GHz frequency, specifically 408.925 MHz. We plan to switch to the Wi-SUN protocol. I have reviewed the "Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS)" from the Wi-SUN Alliance, and our region does not support this frequency. However, we are only allowed to use this frequency for our project as it has been licensed by the frequency regulatory authority. I am unsure whether TI's Wi-SUN solution supports changing the frequency for this operation.

Sincerely

  • Hi John,

Our TI Wi-SUN Stack projects only support using predefined frequency bands (based on region). If I understand you correctly you want to use the WI-SUN protocol and just replace the frequency. You will obviously not be able to certify this product with the Wi-SUN alliance.

BTW, Wi-SUN FAN is a frequency hopping network. Are you planning to add more frequencies or just run it as a one frequency network?

    Cheers,

    Marie H

  • Hi Marie H,

Thank you for your response. I work in the power industry. We have been allocated a specific frequency for deploying IoT solutions, which means a single-frequency network. Now, we can't use any frequency other than 408.925 MHz. Unfortunately, this frequency is not within the range supported by the Wi-SUN Alliance.

Do you have any suggestions? We have been considering between Wi-SUN and LoRa.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John,

For one frequency, we have the TI 15.4-Stack. This is a star network (where Wi-SUN is a mesh network). We have two different modes:

    - Beacon mode where the collector sends periodic beacons, recommended for use-cases where the data is mainly flowing downstream (collector to sensors)

    - Non beacon mode where the collector is always listening and sensors send data when they want (using clear channel assessment), recommended for use-cases where the data is mainly flowing upstream (sensors to collector)

We support several PHYs with the TI 15.4-Stack, including the SimpleLink Long Range 5 kbps PHY.

If you need mesh, IPv6 or certificates based security then I see why you want to use Wi-SUN. If not I would recommend TI 15.4-Stack.

    Cheers,

    Marie H
