Hi Everyone,

Currently, I have 2 LaunchPad CC1312R7 and CC1312R1, and I am looking to develop a Wi-SUN application on these 2 chips. I have a few questions as follows:

1. When LAUNCHXL-CC1312R7 creates a network, LAUNCHXL-CC1312R1 joins the network; however, since LAUNCHXL-CC1312R1 does not have CoAP, it can only be pinged and cannot communicate with LAUNCHXL-CC1312R7. So, can you please let me know how LAUNCHXL-CC1312R1 without CoAP as a node will communicate with the border router, and is there any supporting documentation available?

2. Currently, I am controlling devices using commands via the COM port and the 'spinel-cli.py' file. In the source code, I haven't found where these commands are processed to execute the corresponding APIs. Where can I find this processing in the code?

Hi Vinh,

1. The ns_node example is meant to be used in a two-chip arcitecture with CC1312R1 as the network processor. You will need something to act as a host/application processor and run the pyspinel interface.

If you want a one-chip architecture I would recommend upgrading to a larger device (CC1312R7 or CC1314R10) and running the coap node.

2. If you open the ns_br_src project you can see the source code of the nanostack. If you open the wisun_ncp folder you can see all the source code for the ncp interface.

Hi Marie H,

1. So when I use CC1312R7 as a border router or CC1312R1 as a node router, can I use an external MCU as a host? If so, are there any examples or instructions for doing this?

Hi Vinh,

We currently only have the pysinel example for the host side. We don't currently have an example for MCU host.

By taking pyspinel and the NCP interface guide, you should be able to make the host side driver for your MCU.

Got it. I have another question. If I use CC1312R1 as a node router (without CoAP), then how does the node router transmit/receive data to the border router through which command in Pyspinel?

Hi Vinh,

Two suggestions for getting started with this:

a) Look at the ping command implementation in pyspinel. This is used to send a ping. You should be able to alter it to send your data.

b) Plug directly into the UDP layer on the RN.
