Hi,

The preliminary datasheet for CC1310 indicated 4Mbps (GFSK), but the recently published data sheet (SWRS181 - August 15) only has typical data rate 50kbps, with Max Data Rate “TBD”. Wonder what the expected maximum data rate would be. Any idea?

Also there are references to an Errata (SWRZ062), but the link is broken. Is there anyway I could get hold of this please?

Thank you for your interest in our new device, the CC1310 platform is and expandable platform that will expand its capabilities over time. The device is able to operate a higher data rate and as stated in earlier versions of the datasheet. We have not yet finished the characterization of the these high speed modes and therefore we removed them from the datasheet for now.

Hello,

I'm actually interested in a totally different application for this device. Would we be able to use it like the CC1125 at narrow band slow speed but very high sensitivities?

Like 2.4kHz deviation, 2.4kbps, 459MHz, -120dBm or plus? I'm also clicking at SWRZ062 but no document yet.

Yes, did you note the little passage in the datasheet that says: "Excellent Receiver Sensitivity –124 dBm Using Long-Range Mode". We have a Long range mode built into the device and this is part of the release already on the web today (look for LRM) . The LRM will provide options for various speeds but we have tested 0.6, 1.2 and 2.4kbps with sensitivities range from -121 to -124dBm.

The technology is based on a 10kbps FSK modulation with FEC and DSSS.

The latest release of TI RTOS contains RFpatch and driverlib files needed for 4mbps mode on CC13xx. Example project has not yet been released.

Hello SVS,

I've downloaded the latest TI RTOS files and I'm sorting through the updated driverlib files. What's the best way to get RF settings for various rates up to the max 4 mbps? I have some older cc13xx modules, do all silicon revisions support the higher data rates? If not at what revision would the higher data rates work?

I've downloaded the latest SmartRF and I don't see any way to increase the data rate above 50 kbps.

Hello Juan,

What silicon revision do you have ( you can check this using flash programmer 2 tool)? This works on PG2.x devices. On smartrf studio, the device can be programmed upto 500kbps data rate (2GFSK) using "symbol rate setting". The best way to obtain RFsettings upto 500kbps is to export the settings using studio. Currently, we only have support for 4mbps datarate in the latest release of TI RTOS for high datarate mode. We will release example project for high datarates alson with future TI RTOS releases.

Hello SVS,

Flash Programmer 2 is stating Chip revision 1.0 which I'm guessing is PG1.0? Is everything being sold right now at least PG2.x?

Looking forward to those data rates above 500kbps, can you please post an update when they're available?

Are all cc1310DK boards sold through distributors right now capable of the 500kbps rate and will they support the full 4 mbps range once those configuration values get released? I'm looking to purchase some right away.

Hi.

I came across this thread about data rates, which I found very intersting, because we have around 40 CC1310 evaluation modules that we are using to develop a 6LoWPAN mesh network application, using Contiki OS. And higher data rate woud be very beneficial for us.

Can you tell me if Contiki is able to utilize these higher data rates, and if there is anything that has to be done for it to make use of the higher data rates?

In the latest release of TI RTOS, drivelib files and rf patch file required to program the device in 4MBPS mode are available. We have not yet published example code for this mode.

There will be a PER test code example in the June TI-RTOS release and this example will include the High speed mode. HS Mode will however, no be included in the next SmartRF Studio release (needs a separate API that there is not support for in Studio).

I downloaded TI-RTOS version 2.20.00.06 and found the rfPacketErrorRate demo. I got the demo running on the boards and they were able to operate in the 4 Mbps HSM! I would like to say thank you to all the hardworking engineers in TI!

I do have few questions regarding the high speed mode:-
1) Why HSM is initialized by CMD_RADIO_SETUP instead of CMD_PROP_RADIO_DIV_SETUP? Is HSM a "proprietary" mode? Because CMD_RADIO_SETUP has rather limited configurability compared to CMD_PROP_RADIO_DIV_SETUP.
2) Is it correct that HSM can only operate at either 868 MHz and 915 MHz? I managed to get 920 MHz to work but it interfered with the 915 MHz TXer/RXer (kind of expected).
3) Since the latest version of SmartRF Studio (2.4.2) does not support HSM and I wonder what are the acceptable transmit power values for HSM? In the demo it has "0x23F" set for HSM and it doesn't quite match with any transmit power values in other proprietary modes listed in SmartRF Studio. Is it possible for TI to provide a list of acceptable transmit power values for HSM?

The latest TI-RTOS (2.20) includes an example called RF Packet Error Rate Test that utilizes the various PHYs supported, including the 4Mbps. This is a good starting point.

A: Yes HSM as well as all other PHYs are using the PROP API, so in that sense it is a "proprietary mode"

A: yes, that is correct.

A: We are working to add HSM to SmartRF Studio, at the moment I do not have a timeline I can share. I will notify other on if possible to share power settings, what output power would you like to see?

Firefighter: Thanks for your reply! If it is possible, I would like to know the transmit power values for 0, 5, 10 and 14 dbm. Also, I have done a bunch of tests with the TX power "0x23F" (as came with the PER test), can you confirm the dbm value for that?

@Firefighter - Thanks for the reply! I have been doing a lot of works around HSM due to a customer's requirement. Their application is very time-sensitive so I have been measuring various delays in HSM to design a protocol around it, so any additional information from TI would be really useful to me!

Another thing I want to mention is all the radio operations in CC1310 seem to have longer-than-expect delays. For example, sending and receiving a 16 bytes (payload) packet in HSM needs around 180 usecs, it is disproportionately large when it is compared to 128 bytes (420 usecs) and 256 bytes (680 usecs). I just wonder if you guys are observing the same "problem" or I am doing something terribly wrong somewhere in my code?

Hello,

1. Output power table from smartrf studio can also be used for HSM mode. Are you trying to measure the channel power for modulated signal, if yes, what is the bandwidth setting being used?
2. In HSM mode, the header (preamble and sync) is coded as part of the patch and it has 208 symbols. This is designed and required for robust reception in 8FSK mode.
3. Because of the long header (~130us) and command parsing , there can be up to 260us overhead in this mode. Hence it is not very efficient for short payloads. It is recommended to buffer the data if possible and send longer payloads.

Hello!

For high speed mode at 4mbps datarate (8FSK), changing preamble and syncword can potentially change the receiver performance significantly. Hence it is not possible to change the syncword and preamble in this mode.

Hi SVS,

Thanks for your reply and I totally understand the current limitation.

I am working on a project which the protocol requires the HSM throughput for data transmission, it also needs to send and receive series of very short data bursts for other purposes such as beaconings and acknowledgements. But the long setup time in HSM kind of threw me off at the moment.

I am thinking about keeping HSM for bulk data transmissions, but switch to another more configurable RF mode for the short bursts.

The question I want to ask is if it is possible to switch the RF mode on-the-fly on CC1310, within the current TI-RTOS framework? And what's the latency? I am going to do my own findings and testings but it would be great if I can get any related info on this topic.

HSM is not supported at 433 MHz, and there are no updates as to when/if HSM will be supported in SmartRF Studio. The 4 Mbps HSM is available in the PER test that you can get if you download TI-RTOS.

Hello Louis,

It is not possible to import RF settings for high speed modes into SmartRF studio since they use different APIs and RF patches.

PER test has UART and SPI interface built into it and the receive statistics including the PER is reported.

Juan: Your question is a bit too open to be able to give a good answer. CC1310 supports up to 500 kbps using genfsk. For datarates up to this it's possible to set up the CC1310 to communicate with CC1200 if both chips are set up using the same settings.

How many radios sharing: Do you mean how many radios that can be sending a packet at the same time without interfering each other? If so this will depend on how wide channels you are using.

Sorry, I meant regarding sharing and how many radios can transmit before interfering with each other. Using the recommended settings from TI, how many radios can share the 915 band when transmitting at 4mbps? Also, when set for 1mbps does the cc1310 behave like the 1200 in regards to sharing?

The data rate of 4mbps is required. I am not going to design this chip in until this happens. Looking at the datasheet CC1310 Rev C, which was revised in October of 2016 I do not see any way of using the 4 mbps wireless link.

What is the Noise figure at this rate on 861 MHz to 1054 MHz?

I also took a look at the SimpleLink Technical Reference Manual SWCU117f.pdf and this document does not describe how to set the baud rate to 4MBPS....although table 23-15 on page 1590 describes a 2 mbps and a 5 mbps ....I think this table describes the CC1350 bluetooth version not the cc1310.

Talking about false advertising! This IC has been around for a while. When are you going to finish it?

I need an answer. When can we see 4 mbps?
