CC3000 smart configuration not working

Hello again, Sorry for posting again but I got no response & changed my setup , but still no success..

My setup:

1. CC3000 with FRAM - MSP430FR5739 kit
2. 2 Android devices (3 trys):

Try:
1. No security Android 1 AP name aaa, Android 2 AP name TTT3aaa0
2. WPA security Android 1 AP name aaa with pass 123456789 , Android 2 AP name  TTT3aaa2123456789
3. WPA2 security Android 1 AP name aaa with pass 123456789 , Android 2 AP name  TTT3aaa3123456789 

Still led 6 only blinks  with no link...

Please advice what am I doing wrong? 

Hi Avi,

"First Time Config" is obsolete. When you have something (source code, documentation, ...) which uses "First Time Config", then you use an old version. As far as I know, TI tells you: Please update your software to latest version.

"First Time Config" was replaced by "Smart Config".

Current SP (software patch) version is 1.24 (can be read via nvmem_read_sp_version), latest host software is version 1.11.1

I have downloaded & installed the PatchProgrammerMSP430FR5739_1_11_7_14_24windows_installer from

I've run the patching like described in this link: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Patch_Programmer#MSP-EXP430FR5739

than burned the project as you instructed with  "nvmem_read_sp_version(patchVer);"
and got the version "1.18"

What? how? I run of options...

where can I find the 1.24 patch version?? 

18h = 24 (decimal)

0x0118 = 1.24

So it seems that I'm with the right patch and all.. could you see an issue with the way I tried to make the link?

I've tried those combinations:
1. No security Android 1 AP name aaa, Android 2 AP name TTT3aaa0

and the 3rd from above.. 

Also sorry from my side, never used Smart Config...

Perhaps someone else or TI can give more hints!

Have you got your issue resolved. I am having an exactly same issue.

I am using the  CC3000 module and the MSP430FR5739 (the FRAM - MSP430FR5739 kit). The SDK windows is 1.11.1.  But after I download the Basic WiFi Binary, and press "01" after the "Example App:driver version 1.13.7.13" is shown in the hyper terminal, and run SmartConfig in iOS, the LED6 just keeps blinking. As for the configuration in iOS, I used both APs with/without password, and I also input the key "smartconfigAES16" and device name "home_assistant", but all failed. The LED6 just keeps blinking.

I have also traced the code both in IAR and CCS, both stuck in the loop of "while (ulSmartConfigFinished == 0)".

Before that, I had once used the Basic WiFi Application version 1.12.6.10, and I ported the code from MSP430FR5739 to MSP430FR5736 because in my system the MCU is 5736. The smartconfig process works good. It just have issue in static IP configuraton process. And when I found the APP version 1.13.7.13 is avaiable, then i download it and run it in the DemoKit of MSP430FR5739, and then found the smartconfig can not work. I don't know if there is any difference with 1.12.6.10 and 1.13.7.13.

I have lingered with this issue for a long time. I will apprecaite anyone givs any hints. Thanks a lot!

Hi Andy,

The SmartConfig app hasn't changed. It works the same way. Has there been any small change in the way you have tested? Or did you change the phone with which you test? If the smart phone/laptop is MIMO enabled, the SmartConfig will not work.

Thanks a lot for your response. I am using the same phone. 

I suspect the current load capability that my PC can support via USB, so I used the external power supply. But still no sucess. 

I checked the code between 1.12.6.10 and 1.13.7.13, and found a lot of changes. I am not sure if any other specifical configuration is required with 1.13.7.13. 

Also, I am suspecting the connection between the CC3000EM board and MSP430FR5739 Demo board. I want to know, can we say that the connection is no problem if the LED5 turns on, because LED5 indicating the WiFi module intialization is successful.

I had the same problem with led 5 and all the rest...

Issue was solved ONLY AFTER I HAVE RUN THE TI EXAMPLES (the one from the windows start menu from the SDK installation - which I'm guessing has some code modifications) than all went OK in less than 1 second my cc3000 got connected etc'.

Sadly, I have not invested more time in this due to priority changes.

Today, I have fixed the issue of SmartConfig process. Right now, I can use SmartConfig in my iPhone to config the CC3000 stably and quickly. The reason is that the CC3000 Patch Programmer is needed, which consists of two parts, one is the Driver patch, another is the FW patch. Both of them need to be downloaded into EEPROM of CC3000. Otherwise, the application will not work properly. You can go to http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC3000_Patch_Programmer to download the Patch Programmer.
