CC3200 p2p example not showing up

I'm trying to get the p2p example code running on my CC3200MODLAUNCHXL board and not having much success. I've tried both the WLAN_AP and WLAN_STATION examples working without any problems.

After running the p2p example I see the following console log - as expected

I then scan my WiFi network looking for cc3200-p2p-device and can never find it. I am using both a MacBookPro Retina and iPhone5s to scan for this network. I've used WiFi scanning tools on my MAC and still can't see anything. Any thoughts on why I can't see the device?

Thanks,

Doug

  • Hi Doug,

I spent a lot of time trying to work out what is going on with this, and unfortunately there is little you can do as this is an Apple issue.

  • Glenn,

Thanks for the feedback, I just discovered from one of my local Ti FAEs that this P2P network will not show up as a normal WiFi device on my network and that is most certainly why I'm not seeing it when I scan my WiFi space through applications running on my MAC. Live and learn...

I believe this issue is closed
  • Hi Doug,

That would certainly be the case. But there is more to the story, as WiFi Direct is intended to work similar to BLE, in that you can access it and provision it via a Mobile App, so no need to go to the settings you were looking at.

It is possible to do this via an Android App, so everything works fine. Unfortunately Apple are not playing nice and are not enabling this feature for any device that is not an Apple device. This is likely due to the fact that Apple have broad BLE support unlike Android, so they are doing their best to ensure they do not make it easy for the competition to have simple provisioning via a mobile app.
