cc3100 design with preregulated power supply input

Hello,

We are using CC3100 in our project. regarding power input , in the datasheet preregulated input is mention.

but the input is 1.85V. where as with VBAT it is 3.3V.

The question is can we use 3.3V input with external LDO or it is limited to 1.85v. the concern is to avoid using internal dc dc regulator to reduce the heat dissipation of the chip.

Planning to provide option for both internal as well external regulator to compare the thermal characteristics.

Kindly could you share schematics design with external power supply input. in the CC3100 datasheet page 31 has a reference circuit. can this be used as it is, or any change required in the circuit?

regarding the Antenna, AH316M245001-T is used in the reference design. is the design tested with alternate antenna for better performance. Could you advice few parts.

Pre-regulated mode is fixed at 1.85V since that is what the internal DC-DCs normally regulate down to.

The reference schematic on page 31 of the datasheet is for wide-voltage mode which uses on-chip DC-DCs. The reference schematic on page 33 shows the configuration for pre-regulated mode, but does not provide a reference for creating the regulated input.

There are a lot of considerations that go into antenna selection and determine what performance is best for an application. Note that the antenna you mentioned is recommended because it has been tested with the design and the EVM was certified with it. If you are referring to the performance data presented in the datasheet, be aware that this indicates the performance at a device level and not with a specific antenna. Performance measured for the system with an antenna will be degraded from that.

Please indicate what goals you have in terms of performance.

Apologies for the confusion, but TIDC-CC3ANTENNA-SELECTION may not be what you will want to evaluate. This is a design that demonstrates how to create a solution that incorporates multiple antenna types with the ability to choose between them. I have edited my statement above.
