WL1837MOD: Burst Power Low in 802.11n for 2.4GHz and 5GHz and troubleshooting power measurements with the CMW500

Part Number: WL1837MOD

Hello,

This thread is in continuation of another thread initiated by Oliver Ge. Questions are as follows:

1. We currently don't own a Litepoint, so could not troubleshoot using your instructions previously stated. However, we successfully captured 802.11n powers with the CMW500 for MCS7 modulation only, but confirmed powers are still low at 8dBm for 2.4GHz. The same applies for 5GHz in 802.11n See Tables below. We also verified these power levels do not match the higher powers observed in PLT mode.

After relaying this to Rohde and Schwarz, they believe that the TI module may not be responding to the ICMP echo requests from the CMW500 in 802.11n mode. I haven't come across any issues using CMW500 for 802.11a, b, or g measurements.

FYI: INI file parameters have not changed since:

2. in the *.ini file, does the 40MHz support setting apply to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz

# MIMO support

# 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled
# NOTE: When enabling MIMO support:
# 1. The 40MHZ support must be disabled
# 2. NumberOfAssembledAnt2_4 must be 2
#
MIMO_Enable = 1

#
# 40MHZ support
# 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled (default)
#
HT40MHZ_Enable = 0

Thanks,

Jennifer

  • Hi Jennifer,

    Unfortunately, as mentioned in the last post, we do not have the CMW500 to try and troubleshoot or replicate your issue on our end, and there seems to be a known issue with measuring the WL18xx devices on that particular tester. We did however validate that with using the Litepoint, the output powers match that of what was done using calibrator in test mode.

    Thanks,
    Alexis
