Hi,

We are working with several DRV2604L connected to the same I2C bus. Our intention was to address individually by selecting each DRV2604L with its EN pin.

As specified in the datasheet, page 18 "The EN pin must be high to write I2C device registers". Our interpretation of this sentence is the following : if EN pin is low, trying to write I2C registers is without effect. So by enabling only one DRV2604L, we thought we could setup vibration sequence by writing in "Waveform Sequencer" registers only for this DRV2604L.

But, in practice its quite different : every DRV2604L connected to the I2C bus (with EN pin low or high indifferently !) changes its waveform configuration. EN pin level was checked during experiment with oscilloscope.

Could you please confirm this error in the datasheet or precise how I could get the written behaviour with this EN pin ?

Hi, Pascal:

we don't recommend directly connect multiple DRV2604Ls to one I2C master.

we recommend to use a I2C switch to deal with this situation.

about I2C switch, here is one : http://www.ti.com/product/tca9548a

for DRV2604L EN:

even if the EN pin is low, the chip can still acknowledge I2C address commands, which means the chip can be read.

even if the EN pin is low, certain registers can be successfully written.

That's why we recommend to use a I2C switch.

Hi Pascal,

Here is a reference design we are about to release with 8 DRV2605L drivers. The design uses an I2C switch as Peter mentioned. Please see the attached User's Guide for the design. The schematic and layout files are at the end.

The board is planned for release by the end of November. The name is DRV2605LEVM-MD. The board will be available for purchase and the design files available for download.
