Linux/TDA2EVM5777: Enabling audio output from EVM's HDMI port.

Hi,

I want to enable HDMI-Audio output on TDA2x EVM platform. Hence requesting support with respect to some queries.

1. Is On-Chip HDMI Audio supported in TDA2x EVM?
2. If I enable HDMI-Audio under kernel config and build, should I be able to get the HDMI device getting recognized when I list using “aplay -l” ?
3. If not, what is required to be done to enable HDMI-Audio on TDA2x EVM ?

Yes, HDMI audio is supported in the TI Linux kernel. If HDMI/audio is set as module in .config, make sure that all relevant modules are pushed to the device filesystem. Otherwise, if HDMI/audio is enabled as a built-in feature, you shouldn't need anything else.

Once you have an HDMI sink with audio capability (i.e. a TV) connected to the EVM, you should be able to play audio with aplay command. Make sure you specify the card number (i.e. aplay -D hw:1,0 ...) in case the HDMI sound card registered index is not 0.

Thanks for confirming the HDMI-Audio support on TDA2x.

On the same lines, is it possible to enable HDMI-Audio on “RVP-TDA2x Development Kit” from D3 Engineering, because the commercially available D3 TDA2x kit has not drawn out the Audio lines.

Hence wanted to confirm if HDMI-Audio can be brought up on it in a similar way ?

Thank you for a quick response.

I will post as a separate query regarding RVP-TDA2x Development Kit.

However needed a confirmation from you, as we are running kernel included in VisionSDK package on TDA2x EVM board.

Hence wanted to check if the suggested method to enable HDMI-Audio holds good even when running Vision SDK on TDA2x EVM ?
Please confirm.

Hello,

This has not been tested on TDA2x RVP, but it has HDMI directly broken out the same as the EVM. So if the EVM supports audio over HDMI then RVP will as well, if the software is configured correctly.
