Programming and Debugging for SITARA ARM CORTEX A8

ARM arm

Hi,

We want to use it for Sitara Arm Cortex A8 development so we want to know that whether programming and debugging tool for Arm Cortex M3 Stellaris, whether they will be suitable here as well or not? We have DK-LM3S9B96, whether we can program and debug using the interface.

If not, we request you to please suggest a low cost solution for it.

The development environment for Sitara processors is Code Composer Studio (http://www.ti.com/tool/ccstudio ) It is supported on a dedicated forum: https://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81

What is the OS that you plan to use?

I am sorry if i have put my question wrongly, I want to ask that the hardware programmer and debugger that we have used for
stellaris arm cortex m3 whether can also be used for sitara for programming and debugging the design.

i.e. the programming and debugging interface between board and PC.

No, that will not work. You will need a new JTAG emulator. XDS100v2 is the cheapest available, I think: http://www.ti.com/tool/xds100?DCMP=dsp_ccs_v4&HQS=Other%252bOT%252bxds100

Dear Biser,

Thanks for the info. Can we use the emulator given in ARM MPU AM335X General Purpose EVM Base Board for programming and debugging through USB port?

Besides, from your question which you raised in your earlier mail, I had one more connected query as to is OS essential for SITARA controllers?

There is no emulator on the AM335X GP EVM baseboard, just a JTAG header.

OS is not a must, it depends on what you want to do. There is a free OS-less environment available, named Starterware: http://www.ti.com/tool/starterware-sitara

I am slightly confused,

In the following link:-

the circuit for programming given is referred to as a XDS 100 emulator [USB TO JTAG converter] as described in the given link of forum:-

e2e.ti.com/.../1187010

Similar such USB to JTAG Converter circuit is given in the base board AM335X GP EVM baseboard, so shall we not consider it as an emulator.
I am a little lost. sorry as we are trying it for the first time.

This is correct, the AM335X Starter Kit does have on-board USB-to-JTAG converter. It can be used only for debugging the on-board processor, not for another board. The new AM335X GP EVM Rev. 1.5 also has this (my mistake here, I was checking an older version) and again it can be used only for debugging the on-board processor, not for another board.

They can be obtained only through your local TI representative as they are too big to be placed on the wiki.

Hi Biser,

I have received the GERBER files of the board. One more query that we have is that for rev 1.5 of AM335X board, does starterware automatically configures the EEPROM for FT2232HL chip or do we need to separately program it through utilities as explained in the datasheets of FT2232HL? Again does starterware have all the libraries for seeing this interface as a virtual com port on the PC or shall some extra need to be done in this regards?
