DLP6500FYE: Connected but unable to reset board from GUI... or any other command

I have a PRO6500 from Wintech which is based on the DLP LightCrafter EVM.

Recently by accident the power for the projector was shutted down in the middle of a transfer of the firmware (I know, it sounds bad). Consequently the DLP connected with USB was not recognized anymore by he GUI or the operating system (I'm using Win10).

However, we managed to upload the bootloader through JTAG following the instructions in the User Guide (Pages 50-51): first we tried deleting only the first sector according to the instructions without success, but then we deleted all the sectors and programmed the bootloader again. With the second procedure the DLP was recognized again by the GUI, except that the GUI is now extremely slow, many times unresponsive to any button (including changing the tab) and we cannot send any command.

When it was connected for the first time we tried to transfer the firmware hoping it would solve the issue but then we got the message "Error: Unable to enter to programming mode", so we tried any other command and not even the reset is responding, we got the message "Error: Unable to reset the board" (image below). After any of these messages the GUI gets unresponsive and we must close it or disconnect the usb cable to try again.

I wonder if there is another version of the bootloader that works better, or if you have any suggestion it would be highly apprecciated. Currently I'm using the version of the tools in this link: http://www.ti.com/tool/dlpc900ref-sw

    Hello Carol,

    Welcome to the DLP section of the TI-E2E community.  I will need to consult with the engineers that worked on the DLPC900 based EVMs to see if they have any suggestions on this.

    Hi, quick question... I'm not very familiar with the USB protocol, but I'm trying to understand how could it be that the identification of the device is possible (connected status) but apparently no command is being received by the DLP? Is it possible that the module "SN65220DBVT" which is supposed to reduce noise is malfunctioning and causing an opposite effect? Thanks.

    Carol,

    There is a USB interface portions can be connected and responds to the enumeration process, but it does not mean that the controller is responding correctly to system commands.

    Thanks Fizix and sorry for the insistence... Does that mean, the cause for the problem could not be in the external components attached to the usb lines?

    ALSO AN UPDATE: I uploaded the last used and tested firmware before the failure but the main problem persists: it does not respond to any command, but now at least I get the error messages much faster in the GUI and I can change between tabs also faster. And now I'm sure that the firmware is being loaded correctly because it included a batch file to enable the "video mode" with HDMI once it's powered on and that is working fine, now it works as a regular projector (before it was not projecting anything at all). I hope something of this is some useful information.

    Hello Carol,

    No need be sorry for being insistent.  If you don't I then I won't know if my guidance is working.

    I will look even further into the issue to see what triggers a "connected" status.

    Hello Carol,

    Sorry for the long delay on this. Please try disconnecting and checking the flex cable, and carefully clean the pad surfaces (a pencil eraser works great - followed by a swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol).

    Also try turning the cam screw on the DMD socket to release (but do not remove) the DMD (I think it is 1/4 turn counterclockwise) and then lift it about 1 mm and then let it go back in. Then turn the cam screw back 1/4 turn to secure it again.

    Interesting tips... good to keep in mind. The thing is, I am not sure what fixed the issue and I think it was more related to a software matter . I changed several things, installations, so on, not sure what did the trick but at some point it was working fine again. Thanks a lot.
