mpeg2 decoder on c6678

Hi Anuj, if your stream is MPEG-2 MP@HL it should work .

My stream is MPEG2 MP@HL 1080p. The datasheet says that 1080p takes 600 Mhz on an average to decode.

I'm trying to transcode in real-time from MPEG2 (single core) to H.264 (Core 0-3) at 30 fps. Would it work in that case? Can MPEG2 decoder use multiple cores? I'll share the clip. Thanks.

Hi Anuj,

you are right MPEG2 is single core, about H.264 you can use 4 cores for 1080p30 if you use Base Profile (CAVLC, IPPP..) for using HP you would need 8 cores in order to achieve real time.

Anuj, I was able to download the clips (from outside TI's network) I will check them tomorrow. A comment, playing the clips with Elecard I noticed that some frames show a stripe that seems erroneous (attached snapshot). Wondering in aprox with frame are you having issues decoding the clip, if it is between 17 and 34 it might be a bitstream error..

Thank you Paula for having it profiled. As I said, I'm not using the stand-alone MPEG2 decoder. I'm trying to achieve real-time transcode from MPEG2 to H.264 BP on 6678 EVM.

So, if my MPEG2 takes 345 MHz (for 30 fps), I think it'd be difficult if my output stream is 1080p H.264 BP@4.0L 15Mbps. How much does the H.264 BP encoder needs on an average for 1080p 30fps 4.0 Level 15 mbps CAVLC encoding?

Could that be a reason why I see these failures?

15mbps is pretty high, for testing, if you try a lower Bit rate (say 7mbps) and 7 cores for encoding (keeping rest of the config params) does it transcode OK?
