EVMK2H POWER FAILURE AGAIN

Hi,

I ordered an EVNMK2H evaluation module last week, but the board couldn't boot, and I got the error message "SoC Power Failure". None of the suggestion from the TI's document worked. So I required a replacement.

Today, I got the new board. This time, the error message is either "SoC Power Failure" or "SOC PWR Stop complete". I checked the "EVMK2HX Know Issues", and it asked me to add a resistor by myself to fix "SoC PWR Stop" issue.

I have two questions:

1. If my error message keeps changing between two different ones, how could I know what causes the problem and which is the correct solution based on the "EVMK2HX Know Issues".

2. Why do I get two TI boards in a row with neither working, not even able to power up?

  • Hello Qi Zheng,

What is the revision of the EVM board you are having ?

Is the 1K resistor on location C124 not populated when you get this board ? Is the board working normally after populating this resistor ?

Could you please check whether input voltage is stable ?

Please ensure you have the latest BMC software on your board ?

    1. There are workaround available for both the issue and i hope both workarounds are implemented in the latest revision board.

    2. Please note the EVM boards are produced by Advantech and not TI. There are certain known issues for which workarounds are available online. If you have latest revision board, the earlier version workarounds must have been implemented. If not, i would suggest you to contact the distributor or Advantech support directly.

  • Hi Senthil,

My board is Rev 4.0, so I think all the workarounds should already be implemented.

My BMC version is 1.0.2.6, my UCD versions are 104_A03, 78_A03_02, 52_A03_03. All of them are the latest versions, too.

I contacted Advantech, and they said it is a TI board, so if I have any technical problem, I should contact TI, not them.
  • Hello Qi Zheng,

If all the known issue workarounds are implemented and all the software versions are latest, there should be some issue in the board hardware. Since the EVM is new one, we don't want you to debug the hardware in the board as it voids the EVM warranty. It seems like a lot issue in the EVM boards.

I hope you procured it from Newark distributor. I would suggest you to contact them for the replacement again. We are supporting for device and EVM related issues as well; but in your case, the board is not powering up properly for the first time itself. So you may need to ask for distributor support on this.

Meanwhile could you please answer below questions.

Is the 1K resistor on location C124 not populated when you get this board ? Is the board working normally after populating this resistor ?

Could you please check whether input voltage is stable ?
