How to get good pictures or video with proper VPFE configurations for DM355

DM355 is used to interface a CMOS image sensor. Our customer has tried many different configurations to improve picture quality; however, the picture qualities they get are noisy. Additionally, dynamic range from the image sensor is not good, and the colors just look dull and flat compared to real life.

The customer tried many configurations including the default setting but none shows good quality. They are looking for recommendations to improve picture quality and have the following questions:

Here is my list of questions for TI, basically these functions are poorly documented and very difficult to understand and tune. Some of them have no description of how they operate at all, just a register address with some esoteric footnote.

1.  CCDC Lens Shading
 a.  How do I configure this block properly?
2.       CCDC Low pass filter
 a.       How does the low pass filter in the CCDC work?
 b.      What are the benefits/drawbacks of using it?
3.       IPIPE Noise Filter
 a.       How does the noise filter work? Is it an average filter? Median filter? Wiener filter?
 b.      What does the threshold value mean? How is it compared to the image data?
 c.       How does the intensity value in the look up table work?
 d.      Does TI have a recommended method of creating a proper look up table?
4.       IPIPE Prefilter
 a.       How does the prefilter work?
 b.      Is it intended to reduce noise?
.       There are registers define in the VPFE document but no descriptions of how to configure them.
 d.      How do I tune the prefilter properly?
5.       IPIPE 2D Edge Enhancer
 a.       How does the edge enhancer work?
 b.      What is the significance of the HPF coefficients in the edge enhancer?
 c.       How do I tune the edge enhancer properly?
6.       IPIPE Chroma Suppression
 a.       How do I tune this properly?

Thanks,

Paxon

better dynamic range from the image sensor. Plus the colors just look dull and flat compared to real life.
