Interlace video configuration in encoder

Hello TI,

We have DM8148 based custom board and we are using EzSDK with version 5_05_01_04. I have some queries regarding the interlaced video.

When "pVidEncComPvt->tVedEncInBufsPtr->dataLayout = IVIDEO_FIELD_SEPARATED" how is the data arranged into the buffer?
If fields are separated, do we need to give encoder both the fields into the same buffer? How is it packed?

If required I can give you more details on our requirement and why are we looking into this. Let me know if there are any queries and need more information.

Hello,

For interlace encoding you should set :

In component-sources/omx-ti81xx-src_05_02_00_48/src/ti/omx/comp/venc/src/omx_h264ve.c

//pVidEncComPvt->tVedEncInBufsPtr->dataLayout = IVIDEO_FIELD_SEPARATED;
pVidEncComPvt->tVedEncInBufsPtr->dataLayout = IVIDEO_FIELD_INTERLEAVED;

Changes in the OMX encode demo are require as well.

Hello,

The above change is in the overlay package so you should rebuild the firmwares.

Hello Margarita,

We have modified the capture_encode demo which has 2 encoders. Please find the current modified demo as shown below in the image.

The VFPC 0 will work in a by-pass mode where we do no processing. The parameters are configured only to provide us with 2 output ports because capture port has only 1 output port.

Now what we require is we need seperated fields. We want to do interlaced encoding in one encoder(VENC0), and then de-interlace the fields and do progressive encoding in the second encoder(VENC1).

So can you please suggest the required changes?

Hello,

This use case seems possible. Unfortunately we does not have an example with two vencs and DEIs.
The DEI1 should be set for deinterlacing, for venc0 please follow the above links.

Hello Margarita,

How should the captured be configured in this case whether to set as merged fields or seperated fields?
Also can you please let me know if input to deinterlacer component can be interleaved or seperated fields?

I would recommend you to check the OMX user guide about the components. I would also recommend you to check the h264encoder user guide about dataLayout.

Hello Margarita

Please help us design the components.
When we activated the DEI deinterlace algorithm, we had to set the capture in SEPERATED mode
and when we activated interlaced encoding, we had to set the capture in INTERLEAVED mode

Now we want to combine these modes, and can you please try to answer these question :

1. Can interlaced encoding be done when the capture is in SEPERATED mode?
2. Can the de-interlace algorithm can be done when the capture is in INTERLEAVED mode?

Hello Krunal,

The encoder supports both modes.

It depends on how you are feeding the encoder.

If the capture provides fields in separated more the datalayout is FIELD_SEPARATED, if the capture outputs field merged the datalayout is FIELD_INTERLEAVED.

Hi,

Can you please explain the what configuration needs to be change if we want to configure the encoder to receive a single field in each buffer (rather then the mode in which there are 2 fields in each buffer) ?

What is the use of IVIDEO_TOP_ONLY/IVIDEO_BOTTOM_ONLY ? Can we use these enum values to get the single field in each buffer? If yes, what other changes are required?

Hi Krunal,

Please refer H264Encoder UserGuide Note. or refer the attached image from UserGuide.

To configure encoder to encode one one field set contentType to INTERLACED, datalayout to FIELD_SEPARATED and secondFieldOffsetWidth and secondFieldOffsetHeight to 0,0.
