TMS320DM8147: eMMC Flash boot

Hi,

We have planned to use 2GB eMMC Flash as a boot device for DM8147 Processor in for one of our new requiement.

We will be using 8 bi transfer mode. We do not have any reference design with eMMC Flash device.

Please let us know if there are any concerns in implementing this. Also, let us know if there is any reference design for this implementation.

It would be of great help if you could suggest us any compatible emmc flash device. We have planned to use emmc as both boot and memory device.

DM814x supports booting off the MMC1 interface. You an use any eMMC card that can work in 1bit mode (in addition to 4bit or 8 bit) and CMD1 with ARG=0.

ROM code will use only 4 data pins dat[3:0] (see TRM section 4.7.4.10 Pins Used for MMC Boot), but then you can switch to 8-bit mode in u-boot/kernel.

Sushruta,

That eMMC part should be fine. Just make sure it is aligned with DM814x TRM, section 4.7.4 MMC/SD Cards
