Self-refresh performance

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM3730

DM3730 has self-refresh mode and auto refresh mode. Since DM3730 hardware support enter/exit self-refresh automatically, can we just program the DM3730 to be in self-refresh mode all the time, rather than switch it in/out during the idle?

What is the penalty if we do that (always in self-refresh)?

  • Hi Hongtao,

The memory self-refresh mode is used when the processor goes to suspend mode to prevent data loss. When the processor exits from suspend mode the self-refresh mode should be disabled. In the processor idle state the memory is powered and the memory self-refresh mode is not necessary.
