RTOS/TMDSLCDK6748: Searching for suitable onboard emulator

Hi all,

I have to apply my graduation project on a development kit. After search on TI’s site, I found that TMDSLCDK6748 is a suitable kit for me.

But it does not have an on-board emulator, as said on the official site "The LCDK does not have an onboard emulator. An external emulator from TI or a third-party will be required to start development".

So, what is the appropriate emulator that can be installed on the kit and connected to its pins without no problems?

I found that one "XDS100v2 JTAG Debug Probe 14-pin TI version",

but i do not know if can be suitable or not, what about the probe number of pins and other ones on the kit? are they compatible?

Also, the kit uses DSP/BIOS as the main operating system as mentioned in its features; I want to use TI/RTOS or SYS/BIOS, is this possible?

On the site, I found here in link below that SYS/BIOS can support "TMS320C6748", is that ok? or is there any other suitable probe for the kit ?

Yes, the XDS100V2 JTAG emulator is compatible for TMDSLCDK6748. The C6748 LCDK supports SYS/BIOS as well.

This is a fairly mature device so there are lot of legacy SYSBIOS based SDK supported on this platform. BAsed on your usecase and driver requirements, you can choose from the software list here:
processors.wiki.ti.com/.../OMAPL138_SW_&_HW_Comparison

Please note we plan to refresh the software for this board by introducing support for CCSv7 and TI RTOS in the 2Q timeframe so if this is new development then we recommend that you start with that software as all the other software listed in the wiki is in maintanence mode.

I have a question related to a sentence in the official page of XDS100v2,

"Basic JTAG debug supports most TI microcontrollers (except MSP430), all wireless MCUs, most DSPs (except C54x, C62x, C67x) and all ARM processors "

Does that mean XDS100v2 does not support TMSC320C6748 ?

Mohamed,

The DSP core in the C6748 is the C674x core, which easily gets confused with our other terminology. The C67x core is in the C6701 and C6713, and the C67x+ core is in the C6727B which is also not supported by the XDS100v2.

But the C6748 and therefore the TMDSLCDK6748 is supported by the XDS100v2. Be sure to get the one with a 14-pin TI connector; that is what the schematic shows is on the LCDK (there is also an XDS100v2 emulator with a 20-pin cTI connector). On the TI eStore, the right emulator is TMDSEMU100V2U-14T .
