In Application note for AM335x dongle integration differences

Hi Experts,

What is the difference between configuring and initializing the in-built modem in the android phone and the separate 3G dongle integration with the android OS ?

In case of Android mobile phone with in-built modem follows the same procedure or those codes will be packed differently in customized Android OS based on Vendor ?

In that case, it would be great if some one can point to the vendor specific initialization for 3G modem.

Hi,

The difference between built in modem and a dongle is the interface to communicate with it. A built in modem will communicate directly through serial communication (AT) but a USB dongle will emulate a serial communication (AT) over USB.

So Android should be able to recognize the USB dongle in order to be able to communicate with it (Have the correct USB driver).

Once you have the serial communication the code for modem is the same : AT Commands
