TPD2E2U06: Protection details

Part Number: TPD2E2U06
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV733P, TPD1E05U06

Hello,

We are using TPD2E2U06 on our I2C line. The part says it provides protection for ESD and Surge as per datasheet. But how do i take care of EFT ??

  • Hi Kiran,

I would be glad to help you out with this selection. First, can you tell me more about your system? I see this device has a 25kV/30kV IEC 61000-4-2 rating. Does your system require this amount of protection or can these values be lowered to allow for more selection? Also, the devices I am seeing with EFT protection are rated for lower peak pulse current, so getting the requirements of your system would be our first step.

  • Hello, To be clear we are using TLV733p 3.3V LDO, I need to provide ESD,EFT surge protection for the input line of LDO. THe TVS diode shall also limit the voltage to 5.5V since my LDO can accept voltage only upto 5.5V.
  • Hi Kiran,

Comparing to the part you had previously selected I would recommend the TPD1E05U06. There are a few differences, first being the required EFT protection, up to 80A as per the IEC61000-4-4. This device will cut your surge current capabilities by roughly half though, so if you expect higher surge currents, this may need to be taken into consideration.

The devices have the same breakdown min values of 6.5V and a reverse stand-off voltage of 5.5V. The TPD1E05U06 also has an IEC 61000-4-2 rating of 12kV/15kV.

One thing to be aware of is that this device is a single channel, but lower cost regardless of how many channels are needed when compared to the TPD2E2U06 price.

    I hope this helps!

    Very Respectfully,
    Brian Dempsey
