TCA6416A Behavioral of the SCL Halting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA6416A

Hi,

Could you please tell us how this device works if halting the SCL during reading the register ?
For example, does this device have the timeout detection function ?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Kato-san,

    THank you for your question.

During this halting of SCL, does a STOP condition get sent to the bus? or does SCL just freeze?

The TCA6416A has no minimum clock frequency (we have actually tested I2C waveforms by hand by turning PSU on and off to send very slow I2C signal), and will wait for more data or for a STOP condition.

If a STOP condition gets sent (as it should be when the bus gets used again), then the device will reset its internal state machine. Otherwise, if the SCL freezes up or hangs, the TCA6416A will wait without timing out until it either sees the rest of the byte sent, or a stop bit is sent.
  • Hi Jonathan-san,

Thank you for your quick response.
I will inform our customer of your information that TCA6416A will wait without timing out since I am assuming that the clock freezes.

    Best regards,
    Kato
