TXS0206(A) WP & CD internal pull ups.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS0206, TXS0206A

Both the TXS0206 A and non-A SD level shifting devices have internal pull ups for the CD and WP switches on a SD card socket.

The datasheets for TXS0206 A and non-A version of these parts show reference circuits for interfacing to SD card sockets.

In the TXS0206 datasheet this is Figure 1. http://www.ti.com/lit/gpn/txs0206 This reference circuit shows routing the WP switch to the WP pin on the TXS0206 device.

The TXS0206A datasheet(which is newer than the TXS0206 datasheet) shows reference circuits for SD sockets both with and without the WP switch. Figure 1 and Figure 2

What is interesting here in Figure 2 is the internal TXS0206A WP pull up is not used and instead the SD card socket WP switch is pulled up external to the device. This design choice is not explained.

Why was this choice made in the reference circuit of the A version of this part and not the non-A version?

What are the reasons I would choose to use or not use the internal CD and WP pull-ups of either device?

  • i wanna know what is the different between A version and non A? why TI push out A version and non A, which one should i choose?
  • Hello user4924573,

Just as a helpful hint in forum etiquette - it's generally not a good idea to tack on a question onto a closed 5 year old post. You should post questions that you want answered as their own topic (we track new posts and how long it takes us to answer them).

For your answer, the answer is in the title of the datasheets. The TXS0206A's title is "TXS0206A SD Card Voltage-Translation Transceiver" while the TXS0206's title is "MMC, SD CARD, Memory Stick™ VOLTAGE-TRANSLATION TRANSCEIVER WITH ESD PROTECTION AND EMI FILTERING"

I didn't go through the datasheet's spec by spec (considering they are quite long...), but I would say that they are identical devices with one being targeted to SD card applications and the other targeted to more generic applications.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can help out with.
