DP83867IS: DVDDA2P5 maximum current

Hi,

I have a question about DP83867IS power consumption.

Our customer want to know maximum current of IDD25 (2 supplies).
In DP83867IS datasheet page.11 "Electrical Characteristics",
there are typical current of IDD25 (137mA) but no maximum current written.

They are planning to use TLV70025(output 200mA) for VDDA2P5 power supply,
and they want to be sure that 200mA is enough for VDDA2P5.

From application note(SNLA241)"DP83867E/IS/IR/CR RGZ Power Consumption Data",
I understood that power consumption will change by operation condition.
So, the maximum current is not characterized and not written in datasheet, is it correct?

From "Table 4. 1000M Dual Supply" of above app note, it seems VDDA2P5 current is
around 133mA to 137mA when temperture is 25/105/-40.
And from "Table 10. 1000M Dual Supply Power for Channel Utilization",
the VDDA2P5 current is around 135mA to 136mA when channel utilization is 0/50/100%.
So, it seems that TLV70025(output 200mA) would be enough for any condition,
but how do you think?
Or would current of VDDA2P5 go higher than 200mA if sending Jumbo packets(example 16KB)?

best regard,
g.f.

  • Hi g.f.

You are right that the maximum current is not in the datasheet, and only the app note indicates the power consumption. This is not characterized over a large range of devices and processes, but is sufficient for sizing power supplies.

A 200mA regulator will be sufficient for 1 DP83867 devices as you have shown. Jumbo packets will not significantly change the power consumption.

    Best Regards,
  • Hi Rob,

Thank you so much for supporting me.
I understood and I will tell my customer.

    best regards,
    g.f.
