DP83867IR: Acceptance test procedure for Ethernet Interface (10/100/100 Base T MDI and SGMII) as per IEEE

Part Number: DP83867IR

Dear All,

We have used the Tektronics Oscilloscope along with TDSET3 software for validating the 10/100/100 Base T MDI physical interface specifications as per IEEE 802.3 and SGMII by measuring the Eye Mask at the receiver to validate the SGMII specifications as per datasheet.

My client has put a query that do we have any Acceptance test procedure defined to validate the Ethernet Interfaces. I have checked in google and found lot of tools/softwares available to validate the interfaces but not finding exact acceptance test procedures.

If any of you aware of the standard which defines the acceptance test procedures would be of great help.

  • Hi Kandula,

It is up to the system designer what level of testing they go through.

Qualification plans range from performing 1 IEEE compliance test on 1 PCB with the TDSET3 software as you indicated, up to passing 10 IEEE compliance tests on 3 different PCBs and verifying the digital interface with IBIS modeling data.

In some cases, there are legal regulations as well if attempting to get a CE mark. In that case, emissions controls may come in as well.

At a minimum, I would suggest testing 1 PCB with IEEE compliance software like TDSET3, and doing IBIS modeling of the PCB.

    Best Regards,
