TPIC8101: TPIC8101 query

Part Number: TPIC8101

 Hello Team,

One of my customer is using TPIC8101 and have few queries, can you please help on the same.

  1. How mux inside the TPIC8101 can be used? What is the default state selection Ch1 or Ch2?
  2. Want to interface 4 knock interfaces. Can we use 2 number of knock sensor with TPIC8101 by using internal mux or each knock sensor should interface with external mux?
  3. Does SPI data out can provide data from knock sensors? Or only analog data output from DAC is available?
  4. Can TPC8101 acts as SPI master? How to configure this? Planning to use CP2102 as slave SPI device
  5. What DSP & DSP control mentioned in block schematic, what performance and output this will provide to user?

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Shinu,

We have received your question & our application engineer will get back to you soon.
  • 1. Channel 1 should be selected by default
    2. Either solution should work. You would need to consider the sampling time if you try to mux externally. Note that we have not done any evaluation of using external muxes with the TPIC8101.
    3. The output data can be accessed through analog or SPI. Tables 1 and 2 in the datasheet show how to use SPI.
    4. The TPIC8101 cannot act as SPI master.
    5. I'm not sure what you are asking here. The final output is a measure of how strong a particular frequency is in the input signal. The bandpass filter should be set to the resonant frequency of the sensor. The following app note walks through an example application and shows how to adjust the settings for a particular sensor:
