LMH0302 with a single-ended input as opposed to a differential input

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH0302

Hello,

My customer as the following issue,

Could you please give him support ?

Hello, I am trying to use the LMH0302 with a single-ended input as opposed to a differential input. The datasheet says this is possible but I cannot see any application notes on how to do this. Can you assist? Kind regards,

Thanks, Maxime

  • Hi Maxime,

To use the LMH0302 with a single-ended input, you would simply need to assure that the unused input is properly terminated (in this case, connect the unused input with 50-ohm to GND on the other side of the cap so that the polarities are as symmetric as possible. This assumes that the active input uses a 50-ohm connection.

Can your customer elaborate on the reason behind using a single-ended input?

    Thanks,

    Michael
  • Sorry for the poor quality scan but do you mean like this?

We are aiming to reuse components, hence using the LMH0302 with a single-ended input.

Thanks for your help so far

  • Hi Andre,

This is almost correct. By terminated, we mean that the unused input is terminated with a 50-ohm to GND. The schematic you have for SDI# looks correct. On the active input side, you can remove the 50-ohm termination on the left side of that top line.

Since it is assumed that you have a 50-ohm characteristic impedance media connected to the active input (SDI), there would not be a need for an extra 50-ohm termination on the active line.

    Thanks,

    Michael
