AM26LV31E/32E / cable length and data rate

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM26LV31E

Hi,

Our customer is confirming whether AM26LV31E/32E devices could be used  in data rate 40Mbps, cable length 100ft.

However, I previously got E2E answer in the below URL.

A rule of thumb states that the product of the line length [ft] times the data rate [Mbps] < 2000.

The formula and chart are not hard limits that cannot be exceeded. 40Mbps and 30m(100ft) is possible. However exceeding the suggested limits will result in more noise sensitivity, a short valid bit time window.

How should customer do desk study about noise whether 40Mbps and 100ft is possible ?

In addition, would you give us the explanation of the fundamental reasons that  the product of the line length [ft] times the data rate [Mbps] < 2000 ?

Best Regards,

Kato
