MAX3232E-Q1: ESD protection for RS-232 Bus Pins

Guru 29690 points
Part Number: MAX3232E-Q1

Hi Team,

I understood MAX3232E-Q1 has ESD protection for RS-232 bus pins.
Is there "Equivalent Input and Output Schematic Diagrams" for RIN (RS232) and DOUT (RS232)?
My customer wants to know it if it is possible.

Best Regards,

  • Yaita-san,

It will take some time to generate equivalent diagrams and update the datasheet. Can you let your customer be more specific what they would like to know? I do my best to give some brief description here. At RIN pin, there is a 5kOhm resistor to GND. After the resistor, some ESD cell is placed at the input stage of the receiver. At DOUT, I think the ESD cell is directly connected to the output node, while driver has push pull structure with current limiting feature. Please let me know if you have further question. Thanks,
  • Hi Hao-san,

    Thank you for your support.
I think your comment is sufficient at this time.
I will contact you again if I need further information with background of the question.

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

From my understanding, there should have no direct DC path from Rin to Vcc. Please let me know if you have any questions.
