5v RS232 to 3.3v RS232 communication

Hello

I have two systems with different microcontrollers, both have RS232 ICs on its serial port.

First controller's I/o voltage is 5v and its RS232 IC converts this ttl to serial.

Second controllers's I/o voltage is 3.3v and its RS232 IC converts this 3.3v to serial.

Now I want to communicate between these controllers via these RS232 serial ports.

I want to know that will this system work? Will two RS232 ICs with different input voltage level works together?

    Zain,

    You can check the datasheet of these two ICs to check the output voltage level. If there were TI parts, most likely they would work together. Most of TI RS232 transceivers work with both 3.3V and 5V supply, which means the minimum output voltage is above 5V. Please let me know if you have more questions.
