HET IDE Freezes after 5 seconds.

Hi,

We are using HET IDE on two separate machines, both Win 7 32bit.

When we launch HET IDE (V3.3) the processor usage creeps up over a period of about 5 seconds until the application is unresponsive. We need to terminate it then.

We have another machine with Win 7, 64 bit and this machine works.

How can we get support for HET IDE?  Is it supported any more?

Thanks

Stomp!.

  • Hello Stomp,

I have forwarded your question to our HET IDE expert. They should get back with you shortly.
  • Hello Stomp,

There are a few things we can check before moving on to the expert. First, have you installed the updated files as discussed in this thread e2e.ti.com/.../390613.

Let me know if you haven't and I will talk to the expert to reactivate the link to the file download in the thread so we can see if this solves the problem.

It is worth noting that we haven't seen this behavior with this tool so we would need to attempt to recreate the problem locally to debug further in case the updated files don't solve the problem.
  • Hi Chuck,

    1. I can not get to the patch files because they have expired, however the HET window shows its connected to the Simulator.

    2. There has been at-least one other person in the forums saying about the hang issue.

    3. If you don't have an open project, the problem does not happen. As soon as you open a project the CPU (and memory) usage starts creeping up over 5 seconds.

I'm guessing its a memory leak kind of problem, again it does not appear to happen on Win7/64bit on 32bit.

    Cheers

    Stomp!

  • Hi Stomp,

    1. I've discussed the drop box activation with the engineer that created it. It is located at this link txn.box.com/het-patches and should be active now and for the next 7 days. These are direct replacement files so simply copy them into the directory and overwrite the existing files.

    2. If you could provide the link to the other forum post describing the hang issue, it would be helpful for me to get more information. I haven't had any luck searching for it.

    3. Can you post the project so I can try and recreate the issue on a machine in our lab?
  • Hi,
    1. Thanks for the patches, but they do not work. The output box in HET shows:
    "Starting Simulator"
    "Simulator Constructed..."
    "Simulator Listening.."
    "Frontend Connected..."
"Clock is set to 10 HET_NS"

Once HET is started with an open project, it will hang at 100% CPU usage.

    2. e2e.ti.com/.../1407893

    3. I just start a blank project. I have tried many combination of CPU type and frequency, they all cause HET to hang once a project is open.

    This happens on multiple WIN7 32bit PC's.

    Any Help?
    Thanks
    Stomp!
  • Hello Stomp,

Thank you for giving this a try. We are also looking into this issue. The first step is for us to try and recreate the issue on a local machine. Any additional information you can provide regarding the machine(s) you are using (memory, processor type, bios supplier, any antivirus or security software running, etc) and any service packs you have installed would be beneficial in our attempts to recreate the issue.
  • Hello Stomp,

If could also provide an HET IDE project and setup information that you are using that creates the issue, this would be beneficial in recreating what you are seeing so we can get to the root cause of the issue.
  • Hi Stomp,

I'm able to run on a Win7-32 machine today - except that on this machine Acrobat crashes every time I open the HET IDE manual from the HET IDE Help Menu.
If I open the file directly in acrobat through explorer there's no issue.

I did add HET.EXE and SIMULATOR.EXE to my NORTON 360 list of trusted programs.   I don't know if this was necessary or not though.

So far so good except for the help issue.   Is your crash similar to this?  In my case Acrobat does run for a few seconds and I can change a few pages, then it crashes...

  • Hi Anthony,

Thanks for getting back to me.

We have tried all combinations of machines, user account types, firewall restrictions, etc. The IDE starts up, but when a project is opened the CPU usage increases over about 5 seconds to 100% and the IDE hangs.

Can we do anything to help test and find a solution? Its really been holding us back this problem.

    Cheers.
  • Hi Stomp,

I've never seen that - only the problem when I open acrobat.

Have you ever tried a fresh install of windows - without any other software installed?

And does it work ok for you on Win64 machines?
