I have optimized the HDK Rm48L952 (replaced ZWT package with PGE). and also removed the unwanted ports from the kit . also remover ISSI bga package ic (SDRAM module).

while i try to connect Optimized kit through USB XDS100_2. some error occured.

I dont know where i went wrong. Please help me to trouble shoot the problem.

i also attached the error that occurred during loading program to the optimized kit.

Hi,

If I understand, you have re-designed a board using the HDK schematics, removing some parts and replacing the BGA package by a PGE.

As far as I know, the FTDI device has to be programmed in order to operate as an XDS100. Also in our HDK there is a small CPLD used in the JTAG link that has

to be programmed too.

I will forward your post to our HDK designer for some advise.

Hi,

As Jean-Marc said, the FTDI ROM and CPLD need to be programmed first. For programming FTDI, please use the FTDI utility FT_PROG 3.0 to program the ROM manually or download the attached file XDS100V2.xml to FTDI ROM.

All the details are shown at section 5 of the XDS100 page: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Xds100. For CPLD programming, please check the CPLD programming section 6.4.

Yes Mr.Jean-Marc Mifsud. the process you mentioned is what i done. But i have already placed both FTDI and CPLD in board. how to program those ICs. whether it can be programmed through USB type B mini port or i need and separate programmer module.

All the details are shown at section 5 of the XDS100 page: . For CPLD programming, please check the CPLD programming section 6.4.

You have to connect your board via the usb to your PC and use the FTDI programmer.
All these steps are clearly explained in the wiki page.

Sir,,

I loaded the XDS100 V2.xml file to ftdi. i checked the section 6.4. i installed the xds100v2_cpldprog.exe file in the system in the specified path (<install_dir>\ccsv4\common\uscif\ftdi\xds100v2_cpldprog).

i can able to see both the xds100v2_cpld.xsvf and idcode.xsvf. weather i need to write codes for CPLD ic. i don't know what to do. am st-rucked in this work.

Still some error occured.

Just as an FYI - the CPLD that is used on the HDK is different in pinout / package than the CPLD that is used in the XDS100v2

reference design on the wiki page linked in the above.

It would be good to make sure that your CPLD package/pinout matches the .xsvf file that you are using.

If you copied the HDK's CPLD - then QJ will need to send you the correct .xsvf.

If you are using the CPLD in VQ44 package than you cannot use the file from our HDK. (It is for BGA)

I've found from Blackhawk the following update package for their XDS100V2:

4571.BH-USB100_UpdatePkg_20100609.zip

there is a batch file Update.bat in the bin directory that should work for you.

Have a try and let me know.

whether i need to install Mprog to program CPLD. i already installed FT prog to program the FTDI to load the XDS100V2.xml file in FT2232H.

Have you downloaded and unzip the BH-USB100_UpdatePkg_20100609?

In the BH-USB100_UpdatePkg_20100609\bin directory you have all the files you need to program the CPLD.

There is also a batch file (Update.bat) that will do that for you. It will check if there is a board connected, it will erase the CPLD and program it with the correct new file.

Have you tried to do so?

Hi,

I did a quick check of your schematics and found a discrepancy between the HDK and your schematics.

On your schematics, U17.4 is connected to +3.3V XDS
On our schematics, U30.4 is connected to CPLD IO12_15 via R2623 (PWGOOD)

On your schematics, U17.6 is connected to CPLD IO12_15 via R141
On oour schematics, U30.6 is connected to VCC 3V3XDS

Can you try to swap U17 pin 4 and U17 pin 6?

I'm not sure if this is the problem.

only the pin no 4 and pin no 6 numbering are changed in the schematic but the PWGOOD is connected to OUT pin in the IC and V+ is connected to the 3.3XDS supply.

Hi,

Do you have access to a xilinx download cable?

Cheaper option are available online.

I'm myself facing problem to re-program the CPLD on test board, but I was able using the Xilinx download cable.

On this test board, I have access (pad) on the JTAG signal between the FTDI and the CPLD.

I've checked your schematics, and apparently you don't have direct access. That means, you will have to solder 4 wires on the CPLD for
TDI
TDO
TMS
TCK

Here is the JED file that can be downloaded using the Xilinx download cable and the Xilinx application Impact.

This software is free and can be downloaded from Xilinx web page.

Instead of Platform cable USB a using DLC4 will it work.

Yes, this cable will also work also if you have a serial port on your PC.

I'm still working on the process of using the FTDI to program the CPLD.

Concerning the schematics, I don't understand your comments. For me the on the LMV341 the OUT is pin 4 and V+ is 6. It is the opposite on your schematics.
But this is not the reason of your problem. Once we will be able to program the CPLD, than it will be time to fix this issue.

i dint find any TDO pin in the platform cable i shown above. and i intended to use USB to serial converter (my PC don't have serial connector).

Hi,

Can you please try to use the attached application to communicate with the CPLD?
Unzip in a directory of your chose.

Connect your board via the USB cable and use the following command from a command prompt.
You have to run this application from the installation directory.

D:\Prog_CPLD>tms570_xds100_progcpld.exe idcode.xsvf
XSVF Player v5.01, Xilinx, Inc.
Found 2 USB 2.x devices
Opened Texas Instruments Inc.XDS100 Ver 2.0 B, Channel B, at Location 17762
XSVF file = idcode.xsvf
SUCCESS - Completed XSVF execution.
Execution Time = 0.099 seconds

The location number in red in my example may be different in your case.

If this is working, than try the following command:

D:\Prog_CPLD>tms570_xds100_progcpld.exe program_VQ44.xsvf

It will take few second to execute. When it is done, run the following command:

D:\Prog_CPLD>tms570_xds100_progcpld.exe verify_VQ44.xsvf

If there is no error message, the CPLD is programmed.

Please let me know the result.

Ok that a good news that you are able to program the CPLD.

Now I think the problem is on the schematics mistake I've mentioned earlier.

U17.6 (V+) has to go to +3.3V XDS
U17.4 (VOUT) has to go to CPLD pin 16 via R141.
