TMS570LC4357: TMS570LC4357: how to treat pin "V19" and "W18" for AD2IN[24]

Hello, TI Experts,

Our customer is designing a prototype product based-on TMS570LC4357-EVM(TMDX570LC43HDK).

They sent us a question about "Terminal Configuration and Functions" in TMS570LC4357 datasheet(SPNS195C).

http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tms570lc4357.pdf

From "Table 4-1. ZWT Multibuffered Analog-to-Digital Converters" of datasheet(SPNS195C),

Our understanding is as follows;

  AD2IN[24] is connected to both "V19" and "W18".

Is this understanding is correct?

Our customer wants to use V19 for AD2IN[24].

We would appreciate if you tell us the recommended way of treatment of "W18".

  Should "W18" be opened?

  or

  Should "W18" be connected to V19?

Best regards,

  • Hi Matusan,

    The PCB trace should be routed to both of these balls.

    The reason for this duplication is that the very corner balls on the BGA are the most likely to become open due to stresses.
    For this reason normally we only put GND on the corner three balls.

    But in this case there is a signal there. So we used two adjacent balls that way if one does open the other is there to keep the
    connection to the PCB active. I hope that makes sense.

    In a nutshell: The duplication is there for redundant connections as these particular physical balls are most likely to 'open' due to stress.

  • Hi Anthony,

    Thank you for your detailed explanation.
    We really appreciate your help.
    We understand the reason of the duplication.

    Our understanding is as follows;
      - AD2IN[24] is connected to both "V19" and "W18" in the BGA package.
    ( You used the word "duplication".)
      - Both "V19" and "W18" should be connected to PCB.
    (You said "The PCB trace should be routed to both of these balls".)
    Is this understanding correct?

    Best regards,
  • Hi Anthony,
