MSP-FET430UIF Debug Interface

We have MSP430 USB-Debug-Interface (MSP-FET-430UIF). It was working properly with windows XP system. But we upgraded our system to windows 7. We have installed the driver software for windows 7. When we had connected the harware device it was upgraded for window 7. But we are not able to program our system. Now we are not able use this device with Windows Xp also.

Can the device is reprogram to work with windows Xp?
Or anything other is need to be installed on Window 7 machine?

See the attached screen shot.

Kindly guide.

  • Hi Atul,

This may be a version issue with the new update to the FET firmware for use with newer IDEs that use MSP430.dllv3. Recent versions of IAR use MSP430.dllv3 and perform a major firmware upgrade on the FET tool, changing it from using VCP to CDC, causing older versions of the IDEs to no longer recognize the upgraded FET. This is explained on the wiki page here:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP_Debug_Stack

    So a few questions:

    • What version of IAR are you using?

If you have been using an older version of IAR (earlier than 5.40.2), then you'll need to either upgrade IAR to a newer version or do a manual firmware downgrade on your FET tool.

    • In device manager, does the FET tool show up as CDC or VCP? The new version is CDC but if you are using an older IAR it will need the VCP driver, and therefore not find the FET tool unless you upgrade IAR or do a manual downgrade of the FET tool firmware.

The FET firmware upgrade/downgrade process is outlined here:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP_Debug_Stack#MSP-FET430UIF_Debugger_Up-_and_Downgrade
