DL/T645 Protocol

I noticed that many firmwares from TI projects,

regarding watt hour meters use the DL\T645 protocol for serial port communication.

Could anyone please explain what are the advantages of using this protocol?

I bet that advantage in this case: TI have code to show and have rights to show it

Well, that protocol makes it very difficult to use a terminal program like Tera Term and communicate with the meter.

Well, most protocols intended for automated reading of data are difficult to use in terminal. Try SNMP in Tera Term - you will see :)
