  • Hi Ugra!

Could you post a schematic of the connections between the FET and the MSP? Is your circuit powered by the FET or by an extra supply? Depending on that you have to chose the proper connection for sensing the supply voltage or powering the board (pin 2 or pin 4 of the 14-pin JTAG connector). And of course a proper GND connection is necessary. So when using SBW, you need 4 wires between the processor and the FET.

    Look at this Wiki page:

Looking at the release notes for the MSP Debug Stack in versions of MSP430.dll up to v3.3.0.6 (released in CCS 5.4) the error “Could not set VCC” was reported if there was a communication error with the MSP-FET430UIF, due to the COM port blocked by OS.

This could explain why restarting the PC makes the error go away.

Since you are using CCS 5.2.1 suspect that the “Could not set VCC” is a software problem, rather than a problem with the actual VCC on the MSP430 target. Can you try updating to a later version of CCS?

From the release notes for the MSP Debug Stack I think CCS v5.5.0 or later may fix the error.

To be honest, I haven't seen that error before, and don't what the cause of the problem is.

Suggest you post this install problem on the Code Composer Forum forum to get help. It would be useful if if you could attach the install logs to the post.
