MSP430G2553: Getting trouble in programming MSP430G2553 micro-controller using eZ-FET lite

Hi,

I am using MSP-EXP430F5529LP (eZ-FET lite) as a programmer for programming MSP430G2553 micro-controller through CCS.

I am able to debug the program but as I stop debugging and after disconnecting the launch pad when I reconnect it and power up the controller it doesn't run the code on the controller.

It seems that eZ-FET is not writing flash of MSP430G2553. Is there any way to write flash so that I can use my controller stand alone. I don't have MSP430G2553 Launch Pad, so I want to use eZ-FET lite of MSP430 F5529 launch pad.

Also is there any way to use Energia to program the MSP430G2553 micro-controller using eZ-FET lite. Can I generate some object file by compiling Energia sketch, which can be used directly to program the controller using eZ-FET lite.

Hi Tarun,
Can you verify the locations that the ez-FET is writing to using the memory browser in CCS?

How are you connecting the G2 to power?

I'm not sure about the Energia portion, but I'll loop in an expert.

Hi Tarun,

The G2 LaunchPad support in Energia is hardcoded to program through eZ430 (which is on the G2 LaunchPad).

You can give this a try:

In boards.txt change MSP-EXP430G2553LP.upload.protocol from rf2500 to tilib

Hi,
I got the solution for the first problem. Actually there is a Load button on the UI apart from debug and run buttons. Previously I was missing that step. As I click on the load button, it flashes the program into the controller.

It was helpful, But I have one doubt here.
The thread talks about G2553 launchpad and in boards.txt file for G2553 Launchpad, the default upload protocol is rf2500, which is to be set to tilib.
But I am using F5529 Launchpad as programmer and for F5529 launchpad the default upload protocol is dslite. Can I change this also to tilib? Because defaultt is not rf2500 as in case of G2553.

You should be able to change it to tilib but you will have to follow the work-around posted in this thread:
