MSP430F5529: Launchpad clocks pin out

Part Number: MSP430F5529

I wanted to try and use a 20 MHz crystal on my microcontroller, and reading the microprocessor family datasheet, I believed this all to be possible. Only now, when I actually have everything in the software ready and the parts I need, did I notice that the P5 pins needed for external clock signals are missing on the launchpad. For the first time, I came across the Launchpad's microcontroller board datasheet, and section 2.2.5 explains that the XT2 pins have a 4 MHz ceramic resonator built onto them. Is there any way for me to use my external crystal without buying a different product?

I think I already know the answer, I just want to confirm this before I kick myself too much. I guess this is what I get for not reading thoroughly. :(

  • If I remember right, there is 4 MHz XT2 with integrated caps on 5529 LP board. If you can find any similar module (HF XT with integrated caps) up to 25 MHz, and replace original one on board, it should work just fine.
