CCS/MSP-FET430UIF: MSP-FET430UIF is already in use on Ubuntu 18.04

Hi everyone,

I just downloaded CCS8 on my Ubuntu 18.04 laptop and I get this error when trying to flash my MSP430FR5994:

"MSP430: Error initializing emulator: MSP-FET430UIF is already in use"

I've seen a bunch of similar Q&A to this problem but none of them seem to answer the question of why it is happening and what the direct solution is. Could someone please provide some guidance? Thanks.

Just figured it out - you need to run the install script to add the udev rules for the MSP-FET430UIF device.

~/ti/ccsv8/install_scripts $ sudo ./install_drivers.sh

Then you should see the udev rules for your msp430uif device in the folder shown below:

/etc/udev/rules.d $ ls

61-msp430uif.rules  70-mm-no-ti-emulators.rules
