But I was wondering if there is a way in case an external chip is proving the clock to the XIN pin.

And if that fails for some reason can I switch back to DCO.

Hope you mean that when the input external clock to XIN will die it will automatically switch to DCO. There is some way for the micro to detect that the clock has died off.

But what shall be the DCO frequency?

Is there any specific configuration that will enable this?
