Thanks for reaching out. Since we don't specify this in the datasheet, unfortunately there is nothing I can guarantee as far as the device performance is concerned.

If we look at a similar device, such as the ATL431, then we can see that a negative voltage at the reference pin can't cause a current greater than 0.05mA or 50uA from the reference pin. This may also be the case for the TL431, but it would be very difficult to tell you exactly what the device may be able to handle and for how long.
