I have CC2650 Module booster pack (BOOSTXL-CC2650MA). I want to connect this to PC. (using UART to USB). On the board, I see 5V mentioned, next to pin J1.2, but in PCB board file its a dummy net. I want to use 5V, is it possible?
The getting started guide is just a one page pdf. You have any other guides for this?
You have any examples without the use of MSP432 LaunchPad kit?

If you look at the schematic (www.ti.com/.../swrc324 ) the 5 V pin is not connected to anything.

The getting started guide contain a link to the product page where you can find this document: www.ti.com/.../swra534 which explains how you can run the board standalone.

Yes I know the pin is not connected in schematics, but in PCB, next to the pin 5v is mentioned.

The 5 V is labeled since if you connect the boosterpack to a LP you will have 5 V on this pin.

The document states that it requires CC2650 LaunchPad to program CC2650MODA.
You have any examples to use CC2650MODA without any LaunchPad.

To be more exact, you have to have a XDS100V3, XDS110 or XDS200 to program and debug CC2650MODA over the JTAG interface. Or you can flash it using UART where you need a USB to UART board.

You have to use CCS or IAR to build the problem. As for flashing built binary via UART, you can refer to www.ti.com/.../swra466a.pdf

Follow to generate a .out or .hex file for the project you want to flash into MODA. Then you open flash programmer 2.

and select CC2650 in the list marked with an arrow. Right click on the selected device (where it's marked with unknown in the picture above, this will change to CC2650) and select connect. Then you can flash the image.

Thanks for the steps, but I am still not able to enter bootloader.

According to SWRA466a, a pin must be held high or low to enter bootloader. Which pin and value for "BOOSTXL-CC2650MA"

You can refer to Table 13. Application Example IO Configuration in www.ti.com/.../swra466a.pdf. It’s DIO_9.

Table 13 is valid for that given firmware image. You can select pin yourself in the CCFG as the table you posted shows. YOu can also try to do a mass erase of the device, if the chip does not contain a valid image the bootloader will start regardless of backdoor settings.

I tried pulling down and pulling up all the DIO pins. Still its not entering bootloader. (have reset the power every time)
Tried mass erase of device, no luck.
I only have BOOSTXL-CC2650MA & USB to UART (3.3V)

Can you connect to the device (BOOSTXL-CC2650MA) from virtual COM port using Flash Programmer 2 after you do mass erase?

"have reset the power every time", does that mean that you have a pull-up on the reset line? Please post a photo that clearly shows how you have connected the module.

"Mass erase comes as failed.": Please post screenshot.

You will need Jtag connection and XDS110 debugger to do mass erase.

As documented in www.ti.com/.../cc2650moda.pdf the nreset line has no internal pullup meaning that you have to define this pin.

Thanks for the reply, but I didn't get your point.
In cc2650moda.pdf, I see 100k pull up on nReset.
But in BOOSTXL-CC2650MA , pull up resistor is missing and nReset signal is connected to J2.11

Should we add a 100k resistor in BOOSTXL-CC2650MA at J2.11 and connect other end of resistor to 3.3V or
Directly connect J2.11 to 3.3V?
Please let us know.

(Also when checked with multimeter, voltage at J2.11 was showing 3.3V)

Note that the resistor in the schematic is external to the module

Ref 7.2.1 in the datasheet: "The reset line should have an external pullup resistor unless the line is actively driven. Placement of this component is not critical"

Hi TER,

Thanks for all your support, but I am guessing there is some miscommunication.
I will explain my issue again.
I only have following 2 items with me:
BOOSTXL-CC2650MA (brand new)
USB to UART

I just want to go into bootloader section.
Section 7.2.1 is applicable for design of new PCB, but BOOSTXL-CC2650MA is a PCB which already has CC2650MA.

Should we add a 100k resistor in BOOSTXL-CC2650MA at J2.11 and connect other end of resistor to 3.3V or
Directly connect J2.11 to 3.3V?

Can we have a call to discuss this.

Apparently some of the CC2650MODA were produced without deleting the production test FW from flash. Since the flash in this case has a valid image it's not possible to enter via the bootloader and you need to connect via JTAG to do a mass erase to be able to connect through UART.

We are in process of manufacturing 50 nos of board with CC2650MODA . In this board board CC2650MODA doesn't have JTAG and is connected to microprocessor via UART pins. Hope the CC2650MODA has correct firmware in it or it will be a big problem for us.

Hi TER,

We have got the JTAG and able to connect to CC2650. In CCFG "0xFD9" address, I see value "0x07". I want to update this to correct value.
But in datasheet, I couldn't find any mapping between bits (of 0xFD9) and DIO pins.

Is below mapping correct:
Bit 8 DIO 7
Bit 9 DIO 8
Bit 10 DIO 9
Bit 11 DIO 10
Bit 12 DIO 11
Bit 13 DIO 12
Bit 14 DIO 13
Bit 15 DIO 14

I haven't checked what exactly is placed on this address but it's fairly straightforward to set the wanted IO with number in the CCFG.c file.

Device was erased with the help of JTAG and with proper settings in CCFG and reset pin, device entered boot-loader via UART.
