If 5V is possible, the TCAN1042 is the optimal choice. However, since 3.3V power supply is preferable, the TCAN334 is the equivalent. The TCAN334 is only capable of communication speeds up to 1Mbps though, so if you need speeds up to 5Mbps…

The TCAN334 device has a different configuration of pins 5 & 8 to SN65HVD234DR.
Is there another part with dominant timeout which is completely pin compatible with SN65HVD234DR?

Could you please clarify why the TCAN334 has a much lower Bus Pin Fault Protection of +/-14V. This is quite low for TVS clamp voltage.
At this stage I am considering only 3V3.
