INA228_237_238EVM: Using Sensor Controller Board (SCB) with the INA228_EVM

Part Number: INA228

Hello I have a INA228_EVM purchased for evaluation and along with it the SCB. After some initial difficulties I suspect the SCB is faulty. When plugged in to my PC there is a COM port that appears for a few seconds before disappearing. Every time I press reset on the SCB the COM port will come back for a few seconds but always disappear. This is stopping me from being able to connect the GUI composer to the INA228 EVM.

In the device manager, the COM port which appears and disappears has the VID_1CBE and PID_00AB. These seem to be what the PAMB driver expects to use.

After the COM port disappears I see a "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade" with VID_1CBE and PID_00FF.

Is there a procedure to fix the SCB by having the firmware re-written? Or should I just have it replaced?

  • Hello Ahmad,

Thank you for using the TI forum.

This is expected behavior. For the first time use with the SCB, you will need to use the GUI to program the device (following step 5 below from the SCB User's Guide after the device changes to "Stellaris Device Firmware Upgrade".

This will then load the EVM specific code on the the SCB for operation.

  • Thanks this solved it. Before your suggestion, when I launched the GUI, I would get an immediate "Connection Failure" pop-up and within it "No SCB controller detected." Then it directed me to this forum page. It would have been useful for the GUI to also direct me to the firmware update feature.

  • Ok, thanks for the update!

We are currently working on an update that will make the firmware update process smoother. Unfortunately this is not live on the web yet...
