THS3091: THS3091 / THS3061 Intermodulation Performance

Part Number: THS3091
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS3061, , THS3491

I'm considering using the THS3091 or THS3061.

  • How do these two parts compare in regards to intermodulation distortion?
  • Is there a model/simulator that would allow simulation of the intermodulation distortion produced by these parts?
  • Are there intermodulation distortion versus frequency plots for these parts?
  • Are there intermodulation distortion versus load plots for these parts?

Thanks.

  • Hi Ken,

We do not typically characterize intermodulation distortion(IMD) so we do not have plots for IMD vs frequency or IMD vs load. We also don't typically include distortion measurements in our simulation models.

In the electrical characteristics table of the datasheet for THS3061, there is a specification for the 3rd order IMD at a tested frequency. Also, IMD tends to follow the same trend as harmonic distortion so that can be used as a reference for IMD behavior.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  • The much new version of the THS3091 is the THS3491 and it will have those IMD plots.

  • Thanks for mentioning the THS3491. Would the distortion performance should be similar between the parts. Unfortunately, the THS3491 doesn't appear to be unity-gain stable.

  • Hi Ken,

Please see this E2E thread (link) discussing the unity gain configuration of the THS3491.

I will check with the team to see if the distortion performance of the THS3091 would be similar to that of the the THS3491.

    Thanks,

    Nick
