OPAMP-NOISECALC: OPA192 not functioning in Altium

Part Number: OPAMP-NOISECALC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA192, OPA202

When using the OPA192 spice model in Altium Designer simulation an "unable to solve operating point" error occurs. Replacing OPA192 with OPA202 works perfectly. Any suggestions?

  • Gene,

My experience for supporting SPICE simulations is in TINA-SPICE, and PSpice.  These two simulators will sometimes have convergence problems for complex (or unusual) circuits.  Is your circuit complex?  It may be useful if you post the schematic ( I may be able to suggest circuit modifications or simplifications that could help).  When there are simulation convergence problems in TINA SPICE or PSpice, we normally will adjust analysis parameters.  Convergence problems often deal with the numerical accuracy or the number of data points calculated during a simulation.  The analysis parameters adjust the mathematical criteria required for convergence, so adjusting the parameters may limit accuracy or may change the amount of time (iterations) in a simulation.  Below are links to a document that explain how to solve convergence issues in PSpice.  I do not have information for Altium's spice.  From a short web search, it seems that Altium can be directed to use PSpice as it's spice simulation engine.  If you have not already done that, I suggest choosing the PSpice engine and importing only PSpice models.
