Hi,
A design I am currently modifying requires cutting ouput traces on the following devices TLC374 Quad pack and a TLV2454 Quad pack of unused comparators. Can I leave the inputs floating and the outputs unused?
Thanks in advance for the help
Regards,
Brian Wang
Generally it's not a good idea to leave inputs floating, but the TI guys may have some guidance for this specific part. It is best to tie inputs to force a specific output and not rely on chance. Otherwise, with floating inputs the device can end up oscillating and can draw large supply currents or introduce a lot of noise on the power rails.
For opamps, I ground the NI input and configure the amp as a follower (assuming ti is unity stable, which the TLV2454 is). This keeps the device properly biased and keeps the output out of saturation. For comparators, I tie the NI input high and the inv input low. However, sometimes you need to tie the inputs through current limiting resistors depending on the input structure.
Sorry I can't be more specific about these devices, but this should give you a starting point.
Best of luck,
Tim
