VCA820: Can VCA820 operated using single supply 10 VDC

Part Number: VCA820

I am looking for a VGA  10MHz , with -10 to +10 db gain  operating with a single supply and single ended. Can VCA820 b e used with single power supply 10VDC? or can you suggest an alternative part number

  • Might be possible

    1. All the signal path pins can operate with a single 10V supply as long as you observe their headroom limits to the supplies.

    2. The output transimpedance amplifier has  its non-inverting input pin brought out - bias that at mid supply with good noise decoupling - isolate that cap from the input transistors with a small 20ohm resistor to avoid emmitter follower self oscillation >1GHz.

    3. The one unknown for me is that I believe the added ground pin is used as a reference for the Vg control input - the datasheet says that range is 0 to 2V assuming that ground pin I think. So, to run single 10V, put that ground pin at 5V and your gain control becomes a 5V to 7V range.

not 100% about this, but you might try it in TINA first.

  • Thanks Michael for you suggestion.  I tried in TINA.  VCA820 is functional only with dual supply .

  • Little surprised at that, can you attach your TINA file,

  • Hi Michael,

I have used a charge pump for negative supply  and proceeded with my design.

    Thanks
