LMH6502: Amplifiers forum

Part Number: LMH6502
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: VCA820

Hi Team,

One of my customer is planning to have the circuit as shown in the block diagram attached. Could the part LMH6502, VGA be used as a pre-amplifier to audio IC? Could you please suggest if this IC can perform in the audio range? Frequency plot in datasheet shows till 100Hz fairly constant with 0 phase shift.

Please help with your inputs and comments.

Regards, Shinu Mathew.

  • Morning Shinu,

Seems like a very fast device for an audio channel, if you wish to apply these types of devices be careful of 1/f noise as their corners are likely much higher than the audio band,

This type of device was originally done as the CLC520 dB/V gain and CLC522 linear gain vs Vg. the noise model was pretty complicated, but for the LMH6502 they do show these plots - as you can see by the audio band, the noise is quite high,

There were also a series of upgrades on this topology in the VCA820 series. Same issues though,

  • Hi Shinu,

what gain range do you intend to use? And what is your audio signal?
