"V" indicates the enhanced voltage version (see the recommended operating conditions).
"Q" indicates that the device has been tested to automotive specifications.
"D" indicates the SOIC package.
"R" indicates tape&reel.
It is suggested to replace it with the LM2903BIDR.
One minor clarification..
A "Q" within the part number does not necessarily denote "automotive specifications" ("AEC Q-100"). On some of the older National parts, it can denote Automotive grade, so consult the datasheet.
For native TI devices, "Q" simply denotes the -40°C to 125°C temperature range, just as "I" denotes -40°C to 85°C and "C" denotes 0°C to 70°C.
Automotive specified devices ("AEC Q-100") END with "Q1", regardless of the actual "Q" grade temp range (usually 0, 1, 2 or 3).
I just want to make this clear, as there have been customers that assumed the devices were Automotive grade because there was a "Q" in the part number.
So the LM2903VQDR is NOT an automotive grade device, but a -40°C to 125°C temp range commercial device.
But the difference between the two devices above is that the "V" LM2903VQDR version is specified to 32V max supply, vs 30V for the non-V LM2903D. Below 30V, they are the same.
