PCM1863EVM: Changing BCK LRCLK in PurePath2 slave mode

Part Number: PCM1863EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1863, PCM9211

Hi Team, supporting a customer with this inquiry.

While in slave mode2, can we change the i2S BCK and LRCK via purpath2 to something else rather than default?

We tried to change BCK to 1.024M and LRCLK to 16K on the GUI, but when I measure it with scope on the board, it still shows the defaulted value as shown in the attached pic. So does that mean I will need to inject BCK and LRCK from another physical source with desired value to make the PCM1863 to take the new clock frequency?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi Mark,

Slave mode means that the clocks have to be provided by an external device and changing the PCM186x settings is not going to change the incoming clocks. I think the TAS1020b firmware on this EVM only supports 48kHz USB audio. If you want to use a different rate, make sure the EVM GUI is in Mode0 and then you can either sync the clocks to an optical input, or manually program the PCM9211 to generate the clocks you want.

Otherwise, you could set the EVM in Mode 1 and use the POCM1863 as the clock master and generate the clocks from the onboard crystal.

    Best,

    Zak
